Sheryll A. Daniel, Ph.D. is a clinical psychologist with over 20 years' experience in private practice in the Triangle. She works primarily with adults and older adolescents. She believes that it is important for a clinician to have a deep and broad repertoire of therapeutic approaches, in order to find the techniques which will be most effective in helping an individual, couple or family make the changes they desire. Accordingly, she has studied, draws from and integrates mind-body, insight-oriented, cognitive-behavioral, family systems, and solution-focused theories and techniques in her work. She is a systems thinker, and is attentive to the dynamics of relationships whether working with a family, couple or individual.
Dr. Daniel works with individuals and families with a range of concerns, including anxiety, depression, stress management, problems at work or school, relationship issues, problems in intimacy, and difficulties with sexuality. She has a specialty interest in health psychology, and works extensively with integrative approaches to pain management and to attaining optimal adaptation to injury or illness. Dr. Daniel has particular expertise in clinical hypnosis. She is a Fellow, Approved Consultant, and Past President of the American Society of Clinical Hypnosis, as well as a Past President of the North Carolina Society of Clinical Hypnosis, and has held numerous other offices in these organizations. Presently she serves her profession nationally as a member of the Board of Trustees of the ASCH Education and Research Foundation, and as an Advisory Editor for the American Journal of Clinical Hypnosis. Additionally, she provides consultation services for colleagues, and consultation leading to certification in clinical hypnosis.
Dr. Daniel believes that patients are often best served through a collaborative approach. When she is working with an individual with a health concern, this means that she will consult with the other members of the patient's treatment team, in order that the whole person is best understood and treated. When working with couples' and family issues, this may mean consultation with the professionals involved with each spouse individually or with other family members, so that the systems issues as well as each individual's dynamics and goals can be understood and addressed. Her deep belief in collaboration and systems thinking was one important reason for her decision to join FPPA.
Dr. Daniel obtained her Bachelor of Arts from Williams College, with majors in physics and psychology. She is a member of Phi Beta Kappa and Sigma Xi (the national science honor society), and graduated with Highest Honors in Psychology.
